Nottingham Forest manager Steve McClaren has made his fourth signing of the summer transfer window by landing Matt Derbyshire from Greek outfit Olympiakos. The 25 year old has been signed for an undisclosed fee and has put pen to paper a three year deal at the City Ground.

Derbyshire thus becomes McClaren’s fourth signing of the summer after Andy Reid, Jonathan Greening and George Boateng. He spent last season on loan at Birmingham City and left the Blues for Greece when they were relegated from the Premier League.

Derby County were also interested in Derbyshire but Forest have stolen a march over their rivals after securing his signature.

At Olympiakos, Derbyshire was best remembered for his brace in the club’s Greek Cup final win over arch rivals Panathinaikos.

Queens Park Rangers have officially completed the signing of goalkeeper Brian Murphy on a free transfer. The Irish stopper has signed a two year deal with the Hoops and will provide competition to Paddy Kenny and Radek Cerny for a starting spot under the sticks. Murphy was a free agent after rejecting a new contract at Ipswich Town and spent the last few weeks on trial with QPR, even appearing in a few friendlies for Neil Warnock’s side.

Waterford born Murphy started his career with Man City and had loan spells at Oldham and Posh before joining Swansea in 2003. After three years at the Liberty Stadium, he left the Welsh club to return home by signing for Bohemians. He won two League of Ireland titles with Bohs before joining Ipswich in January 2010.

West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of striker Shane Long from Reading. The Irish striker has switched clubs for a reported £7m fee, with the Baggies paying the Royals £4.5m upfront and the rest of the money in add-ons. Long has put pen to paper a three year deal at the Hawthorns and becomes West Brom’s sixth signing of the summer and the first they’ve paid a transfer fee for.

Long scored twenty five goals for Reading last season, averaging about one goal every two games as the Royals narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League. He has been with Reading since 2005 after moving to the Madjeski from Cork City and had a year left on his contract with the club.
