June 2009 – Movement of scout and manager
In
Glen Johnson (24), Portsmouth –> Liverpool(£17m)
First signing of the Kops in the summer. After impressive performance last season with Portsmouth, Johnson feature as Right Back for PFA team of the year for 08/09 season. His returning of forms see number of club, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City interested in signing him, whereby he joined Liverpool for 17 millions pound and signed a 4 year contracton the 26 June. No doubt he is a good wing back which will help in creating chance for scoring and overall increasing Liverpool attacking power. But to spent 17 million on a defender instead of a class striker might cause the title to flew away, as 1 of the reason Liverpool lost the title to Man Utd is due to Torres injury and no replacement around which cause points loss. Instead of buying a defender, i would rather Liverpool add on more money to buy Striker like Villa perhaps.
Gareth Barry (28), Aston Villa –> Manchester City(£12m)
After being chased by Liverpool for years, and even Arsenal also express their interests, Gareth make a surprise move for Man City instead and for a surprise price tag of £12m whereby a higher price bid have been made by Liverpool before. Rumour then spread around that he joined Man City for money instead of a Champion league spot club like Liverpool or Arsenal. During 07/08 season was the peak of his career so far as he form formidable parntership with Gerrard whereby even Lampard need to make the space for him to sit on bench.
Thomas Vermaelen (23), Ajax –> Arsenal(£10m)
First signing make by Arsenal in the summer, he captained Ajax side during 08/09 season which finished 3rd and qualify for Europa League. Not bad for a 23 year old defender to captain a club such as Ajax, though i never saw him play before, but he surely will get my attention at the start of next season as Arsene Wenger is famous for signing good player.
Roque Santa Cruz (27), Blackburn –> Manchester City(£17m )
The 2nd player who signed for Man City of the month following Gareth Barry move. He is a player with good touch and finishing who should worth the costs that man City pay for him. He bagged a number of 19 goal during his debut season for Blackburn which proved to be a great buy for just £3.5 million. He has been linked with number of other EPL club like Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham but in the end chosen Man City as his next career destination. With the likes of him, he sure make the overall standard of Man City to go up slightly.
Antonio Valencia (27), Wigan –> Manchester Utd(£16m)
His impressive performance with Wigan catches the attention of Liverpool, Manchester Utd and even Barcelona and Real Madrid. Closely watched by Real Madrid and Man Utd before signing for Man Utd instead. Tips to shoulder the role of C.Ronaldo if he leave for Madrid and can make the same impact. Will rival Nani for the winger role thought.
Gael Givet
(27), Marseille –> Blackburn (Undisclosed)
Blackburn signed Gael Givet for a permanent deal after the defender decent performance with the club since on loan at Jan 09 from Marseille. A solid defender who got plenty of experience to offer as he feature for france international before and over 200+ appearance in french ligue 1 from Monaco and Marseille.
Giovanny Espinoza
(32), Barcelona SC –> Birmingham(Undisclosed)
An experience center back who have 80 over cap under his name for his country Ecuador. His solid performance shall help decide Birmingham standing at the end of next seaon. At the age of 32, he is still physical fit and good in speed still. He shall be playing alongside with compatriot Christian Benitez.
Kevin Doyle
(25), Reading –> Wolves(£6.5m)
A striker who catches my eyes when Reading promote to Premier League on 07/08 despite relegation, scored 50+ goal during his 150+ Reading appearance. Been a regular for Ireland National squad since 3 years ago and have been consistance in his performance. Should be able to make the lineup for Wolves in the coming season.
Roger Johnson
(26), Cardiff –> Birmingham(£5m)
5 millions pound for a defender who doesnt have any top flight experience might be abit risky to buy. But his solid performance last season for Cardiff to earn him a spot in the divisional team of the year will proof otherwise. Looking forward to his solidify partnership alongside with new signing Espinoza at the center back.
Steven Fletcher
(22), Hibernian –> Burnley(£3m)
A club transfer record buying for Fletcher with decent result during his time in Scotland league. Not really good enough to compete in premier league but guess that the best Burnley can find around to join them. Perhaps they should invest in defence instead as Burnley concede 60 goal, the most amount of goal in English championship last season in the top half of the table.
Tyrone Mears
(26), Derby County –> Burnley(£500K)
Not a unfamiliar face in premier league as he is part of the Derby squad in 07/08 who set the new record of lowest point scored in a top flight season. Not really strong enough to defend against the likes of striker like Torres, Drogba.
Elrio Van Heerden
(26), Club Brugge –> Blackburn(Free Transfer)
A South African International Midfielder who can play in all position in midfield, can act as an alternative in different gameplay. With his country hosting next year World Cup, playing in English Premier League will increase his chance to appear for his nation instead.
Lars Jacobsen
(29), Everton –> Blackburn(Free Transfer)
Finally blackburn end their hunt for a right back by signing Jacobsen from Everton. He is plague by injury most of the time in the past 2 season, with his fitness fit, he should be playing an important role in Blackburn lineup.
N’Zonzi
(20), Amiens –> Blackburn(£500K)
4th signing of the club in the summer, might serve in rotation squad or backup at the moment.
Out
Djimi Traoré
(29), Portsmouth –> Monaco(Undisclosed)
Once, he attract clubs likes Liverpool, AC Milan, PSG and Lazio at the age of 19, but failed to live up to expectation. Now he make a return to his birth country league to continous his career.
Ben Sahar
(19), Chelsea –> Espanyol(£1m)
A decent youngster who scouted by Chelsea during his career, havent have much chance to prove himself for the club. He break into Israel national squad at the age of 17 1/2 and have 15 cap under his name now. A good time for him to move on to a club where he stand the chance of playing instead trying hard to break into Chelsea lineup.
Matt Derbyshire(23), Blackburn –> Olympiacos(£3m)
Produced from Blackburn youth academy, as his chance of playing being limited, he joined Olympiacos at Janaury 09 on loan before signing for a permanent deal after great performance of 5 goal in 7 matches.
